Incentives
Every person has their own unique set of “hot buttons,” the rewards that will inspire them to work harder to stay within established rules, and the consequences that will dissuade them from ignoring or pushing boundaries. The key to effective structure is find the right mix of rewards and consequences, then matching them up with clear and consistent boundaries.
On the next page, please list appropriate rewards and consequences to encourage your family to live within the boundaries that you identified on the prior page. Remember, there is a certain amount of trial and error involved in finding the right mix. It’s ok to adjust the incentives (and the boundaries for that matter); however, such adjustments should never be made spontaneously and should only be made in the agreed upon forum.
