This blog represents the start of one journey, middle of another, the culmination of yet another. I’ll start with “rewind”…
I’ve been a dad for nearly twelve years now. I’ve made many mistakes along the way, but also figured out a few things. A couple of years ago, I came up with a concept called the Family Constitution to help provide structure for my family where little existed before. This is the journey I’m in the middle of. My family has made tons of progress, but we’ve still got room to grow; in fact, we always will. This journey has been the greatest of my life.
The journey I’m completing is that of an author. I’ve finished my book, Your Family Constitution, aimed at sharing my unique parenting tool with other families who could use an antidote to chaos. I can’t promise it will entirely eliminate the frantic pace of life, but it will certainly add time in your day and take the arguing and whining down a few decibels. Clarity and consistency are the driving forces…what a difference it makes.
The journey I’m beginning is that of blogger. Before I wrote a book, I’d never blogged before. I started reading blogs as a source of information and ideas, but I rarely commented. Now, I’m leaning on the blogosphere to introduce myself to other parents who may be interested in their own Family Constitution, and to share ideas where I can get honest feedback. I found that my true passion is helping families communicate and re-connect in spite of today’s hectic lifestyle and increased demands, so what better way to reach out than through a blog. What else might you like to know about me…I’m also an instructor at University of California Irvine, a residential land developer (when there is actually a market), and an enthusiastic Pony League baseball coach. My other passions include surf kayaking, river rafting (I’ll be rafting the Grand Canyon in August 2010), and neighborhood softball.
